| Resumen en inglés | As he raises the question of what is a Reformed ecclesiology, the author demonstrates an identity problem when sympathizers of this tradition bring up issues that do not represent the core of ecclesiology or ground their answers on their own experience or on a key theologian. As a more faithful way for the tradition under discussion, the author proposes to analyze the nature of the church in light of some Reformed confessions. As he presents the essence of Reformed ecclesiology imbedded in the phrase “communion of the saints” and describes the four attributes of the church (one, holy, catholic, and apostolic) in light of important distinctions (organism vs. organization, visible vs. invisible), the author concludes that a Reformed ecclesiology is not something easy to define, but also that a better understanding of the Reformed concept of the church instills love for what God has already done in the church, besides faith and hope regarding what he will do in it |
| Resumen en portugués | Ao levantar a pergunta sobre o que é uma eclesiologia reformada, o autor demonstra um problema de identidade quando reformados levantam assuntos que não representam o âmago da eclesiologia ou fundamentam suas respostas em experiência própria ou algum grande teólogo. Como caminho mais fiel à tra - dição em debate, o autor propõe analisar a natureza da igreja à luz de confissões reformadas. Ao apresentar a essência da eclesiologia reformada encapsulada na expressão “comunhão dos santos” e descrever os quatro atributos da igreja (una, santa, católica e apostólica) à luz de distinções importantes (organismo x organização, visível x invisível), o autor conclui que uma eclesiologia re - formada não é algo simples de definir, mas que um melhor entendimento do conceito reformado da igreja inspira amor pelo que Deus já fez na igreja, além de esperança e fé quanto ao que Deus há de fazer nela |
