| Resumen en español | Este artículo propone que las ampliaciones del Panteón del Tepeyac y la Colegiata de Guadalupe realizadas en el sigloxixconformaron la modernización del santuario siguiendo modelos europeos. Su objetivo fue convertir a la Villa de Guadalupe en un centro de peregrinaje masivo, religioso y cultural. No obstante, la imitación de patrones extranjeros produjo dificultades técnicas, administrativas y económicas. A partir de archivos, caricaturas y prensa se analizan los efectos urbanos de dichos proyectos. Las fuentes indican que las infraestructuras y los peregrinos comprometieron el agua potable, la salubridad, la seguridad y los ferrocarriles; además, propiciaron corrupción y segregación socioespacial. |
| Resumen en inglés | This article proposes that the extensions of the Tepeyac cemetery and the Collegiate Church of Guadalupe carried out in the 19th century shaped the modernization of the sanctuary following European models. The goal was turning the Ville of Guadalupe into a massive religious and cultural pilgrimage site. However, the imitation of foreign patterns produced technical, administrative, and economic hardships. Drawing on archives, caricatures and press this paper analyzes the urban effects of these projects. The sources point out that infrastructures and pilgrims threatened the water system, the sanitation, the security, and railways; furthermore, they triggered corruption and socio-spatial segregation. |
