| Resumen en español | El objetivo de este artículo es estudiar la normativa monástica que estipuló el obispo Manuel de Alday y Aspée para las Clarisas Antiguas de Santiago de Chile, durante el siglo XVIII. Para ello, se analizan las visitas pastorales que hizo al claustro en 1756 y 1759. Se plantea que las inobservancias que atestiguó el prelado en este convento, le permitieron conocer la realidad de las monjas contemplativas del Reino y, en definitiva, reglamentar al respecto. Se concluye que en aquellas disposiciones utilizó como modelo de perfección la figura de Santa Teresa de Ávila y la forma de vida del Carmelo Descalzo, por lo que su principal preocupación fue reducir la cantidad de religiosas que habitaban la comunidad clarisa |
| Resumen en inglés | The aim of this article is to study the monastic regulations stipulated by Bishop Manuel de Alday and Aspée for the Ancient Poor Clares of Santiago de Chile, during the 18th century. For this purpose, the pastoral visits made to the cloister in 1756 and 1759, are analyzed. It is suggested that the nonobservances that the prelate witnessed in this convent allowed him to know the reality of the contemplative nuns of the Kingdom and, definitively, to regulate in this respect. It is concluded that in those dispositions it used as model of perfection the figure of Santa Teresa de Ávila and the way of life of the Barefoot Carmel, reason why its main preoccupation was to reduce the amount of nuns that inhabited in the Poor Clares community |
