| Resumen en español | La escasa información referida a la experiencia del teatro en Venezuela que hoy localizamos excluye generalmente el acontecer de la provincia. Las pocas referencias dedicadas al tema en el siglo XIX se encuentran dispersas en obras de viajeros y visitantes, en periódicos locales y en testimonios de cronistas. Es el caso de la ciudad de Cumaná, uno de los tres centros musicales más importantes del país, junto con Caracas y Mérida. La capital oriental dejó valiosos y nutridos aportes a la historia del país, pero buena parte de esa memoria se ha perdido; las fuentes directas que han sobrevivido a termitas, humedad, terremotos y falta de cuidado, se encuentran en estado lamentable. | Resumen en inglés | The lack of available information referring to the experience of the theater in Venezuela and that today we can located, generally excludes what happens in the provinces. The few references dedicated to the subject in the xix century can be found dispersed in works by travelers and visitors, in local newspapers and in the testimonies of chroniclers. It is the case of the city of Cumaná, one of the three more important musical centers of the country, along with Caracas and Mérida. The Eastern capital left valuable and nourished contributions to the history of the country, but a good part of that memory has been lost; the direct sources that have survived termites, humidity, earthquakes and lack of care, are in a lamentable state. This first approach to the subject sets out to articulate disintegrated data in order to be able to go deep into a necessary investigation |
