| Resumen en español | La picadura de una araña reclusa parda es venenosa. El nombre científico de esta araña es Loxosceles reclusa. Los efectos del veneno pueden presentarse bajo dos formas clínicas: loxoscelismo cutáneo (LC) y loxoscelismo cutáneo-visceral (LCV) o sistémico. El veneno de esta araña provoca reacciones citotóxicas y hemolíticas. La esfingomielinasa D es la causa principal de la necrosis y hemólisis con la consecuente anemia e insuficiencia renal. El tratamiento está encaminado a la atención local y a la prevención de los efectos sistémicos que pueden conducir al paciente hacia la muerte. | Resumen en inglés | The bite of a recluse spider is poisonous. The scientifi c name of this spider is Loxosceles reclusa. The effects of the poison can appear under two clinical forms: cutaneous loxoscelism (CL) and cutaneous - visceral loxoscelism (CVL) or systemic. The poison of this spider has cytotoxic and hemolytic actions. The esfi ngomielinase D is the mainspring of the necrosis and hemolysis with the consistent anemia and renal insuffi ciency.
