| Resumen en inglés | The purpose of this presentation is to introduce the French-speaking reader to the functional analysis of verbal behavior (Skinner, 1957), and its applications within Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP). FAP invites therapists to directly influence clinically relevant behaviors during therapeutic sessions, by arranging their specific antecedents and consequences. In this paper, several functional varieties of verbal behaviors are defined as mand, tact, intraverbal and autoclitic (Skinner, 1957), and illustrated within the clinical setting. These verbal responses are defined as independent behavioral operations which exist both inside the therapy sessions and daily life. Two functional dimensions of generalization and behavioral compatibility are next proposed for the clinical assessment. This presentation concludes with the discussion of the therapeutic benefits of a clinical analysis of verbal behavior. In particular, we argue that the recognition of these independent verbal operations eases the application of at least four of the five therapeutic rules prescribed by FAP, namely, observing, evoking, responding to and generalizing clinically relevant behavior |
| Otro resumen | L’objectif de cet article est d’introduire le lecteur francophone à l’analyse fonctionnelle du comportement verbal (Skinner, 1957) et son application en thérapie analytique fonctionnelle ou FAP (Kohlenberg et Tsai, 1991). Cette dernière propose d’influencer directement en consultation les comportements d’intérêt thérapeutique, dits cliniquement significatifs, en modifiant les antécédents et les conséquences du comportement du patient. Dans le présent article, plusieurs variétés de comportements verbaux cliniquement significatifs sont définies, sous le nom de mande, tact, intraverbale et autoclitique (Skinner, 1957) et illustrées cliniquement. Deux dimensions de ces comportements verbaux sont ensuite proposées afin de faciliter l’évaluation fonctionnelle de ces derniers pour le patient. En conclusion, certains apports de l’analyse clinique du comportement verbal des patients sont proposés afin de mieux appliquer les règles d’action prescrites en FAP |
