| Resumen en español | Comentando el trabajo de Bally y Sechehaye, editores del Curso de lingüística general, Roman Jakobson decía incisivamente que allí donde los materiales que utilizaron sugerían un punto de interrogación, ellos habían optado por poner un punto final. Nuevos documentos -que a su vez permiten ver los antiguos bajo una luz distinta- motivan paulatinamente una lectura distanciada del estilo asertivo del Curso y, particularmente, de su pretensión de conformar un «todo orgánico». El foco se disloca hacia las tensiones y fluctuaciones de los escritos de Saussure y, consecuentemente, hacia sus efectos de substracción y disolución. En esta línea, reviso en esta comunicación algunas de las disyunciones analizadas por Saussure en De la doble esencia del lenguaje y en otros textos, así como aquellas entre la multiplicidad de los fenómenos lingüísticos y la consideración de ciertos principios que los moldean, entre la transformación y la continuidad, la sincronía y la diacronía así como entre modalidades del orden y el desorden en la vida de las lenguas. En vista de estas disyunciones me pregunto si lo que Saussure busca es reducir y así hacer compatibles los términos o, más bien, confrontarse con la heterogeneidad, radicalizando inclusive para este fin sus diferencias. Esta secuencia de contraposiciones lleva a la pregunta suplementaria sobre el acontecer de la lengua y a la búsqueda de posibles orientaciones a partir de lo que Saussure nos deja entrever sobre el «no-ser» y la negatividad como factores lingüísticos -y, por tanto, culturales- constituyentes |
| Resumen en inglés | About the editors of the Cours de Linguistique Générale Roman Jakobson said pointedly that, where the materials used suggested a question mark, they had chosen to put a conclusive point. New documents - which in turn allow us to see the old ones in a different light - gradually led to a reading at a remove from the assertive style of the Cours and particularly its pretension to constitute an "organic whole". The focus shifted to the tensions and fluctuations of the writings of Saussure and, consequently, to its subtractive and dissolving effects. Along this line, in this paper I review some of the disjunctions analyzed by Saussure in De l' essence double du langage and other texts, such as those between the multiplicity of linguistic phenomena and the centrality of the principles that shape them; between transformation and continuity; between the synchronic and diachronic, as well as those among the consequences of order and disorder in the life of languages. Given these disjunctions, I ask whether Saussure was searching to reduce or to compatibilize such terms, or whether he was rather confronting their heterogeneity, and even radicalizing for this purpose their differences. This sequence of contrapositions leads to further questions about the happening of language and the search for possible guidance departing from what Saussure allows us to glimpse about "non-being" and negativity as constitutive linguistic - and therefore cultural - factors |
