| Resumen en inglés | The local community and its attitudes and perceptions constitute a nucleus of essential interest when analyzing and man ag ing the economic, sociocultural and en vi ron mental im pact of tourism development in a certain zone. Using multivariate analysis techniques, this wo rk ana lyzes the per ception and at ti tudes of resi dents at an emerg ing tour ist des ti na tion, the country- archipelag o of Cape Verde (Af rica), util iz ing a sur vey de signed for this pur pose. The study cen ters on the is land of S ao Vicente, an en clave with tour ist growth that is al ter ing the resi dents’ way of life. Ac cord ing to the re - sults, in gen eral terms, the com mu nity per ceives eco nomic op por tu ni ties for a popu la tion tra di tion ally con demned to mi gra tion, high light ing posi tive im pacts such as im prove ment in in fra struc ture in vest - ments and higher qual ity in es tab lish ments of res to ra tion and com merce. Con clu sions are that greater lo cal par tici pa tion is needed in the tour ism ini tia tives, with an eye to reach ing sus tain abil ity in tour ism de vel op ment and achiev ing a posi tive per cep tion on the part of the resi dents |
