| Resumen en inglés | This article examines the issue of the “works of t he law” in the context of Galatians 2:15–21, specifically in the light of verse 16. The author addresses the issue by discussing the use of rhetoric and semantics both in Galatians as a whole and in the passage being investigated. He assesses the nature of the Letter to the Galatians in light of what has been proposed by H. D. Betz and others, treating the let ter as forensic/deliberative. Furthermore, the article interacts with the generative process o f sense to construct the meaning of the Pauline text. From this, the key expressions in ver se 16 are investigated, considering the centrality of this verse in the rhetorical-theologi cal structure of Galatians, in order to decipher the letter's message. The author concludes by reaff irming that the antithetical character of the “works of the law” and “justification in Jesus” has a soteriological nature rather than a sociological one, believing that the traditional vi ew is still the best explanation for the Pauline controversy in early Christianity |
| Resumen en portugués | Este artigo procura examinar a questão das “obras da lei” no contexto de Gálatas 2.15– 21, mais precisamente no v. 16. O autor procura abo rdar o tema a partir de um estudo da retórica e semântica em Gálatas e na perícope a ser investigada. Ele avalia a natureza da Epístola aos Gálatas à luz da proposta de H. D. Bet z e outros, tratando-a como uma carta forense/deliberativa. Além disso, o artigo procura interagir com o percurso gerativo de sentido para a construção do sentido do texto paulino. A pa rtir disto, são investigadas as expressões- chave no verso 16, considerando a centralidade dest e verso na estrutura retórico-teológica de Gálatas para decifrar a mensagem da epístola. O aut or conclui reafirmando o caráter antitético de “obras da lei” e “justificação em Jesus” como de natureza soteriológica e não sociológica, acreditando que a visão tradicional ainda é a melho r explicação para a controvérsia paulina nos primórdios do cristianismo |
