| Spanish abstract | El argumento central de Marshall Sahlins es que la cultura de Occidente muestra un amplio desdén por sí misma al reducir su comprensión de la humanidad al individuo maximizador. El autor hace un recuento del surgimiento de esta idea en la filosofía política y su contrargumento es que con ello se olvida a la Historia y a la diversidad de una amplia variabilidad del comportamiento humano sustentado en la comunidad del parentesco del que informa el registro etnográfico. | English abstract | Marshall Sahlins’s core argument is that the Western culture, by restricting its understanding of humanity to the maximization of the individual, is actually showing a generalized contempt for itself. The author reviews the emergence of this idea within the field of political philosophy, counter-arguing that this leads to ignoring history and the diversity of an extensive variability of human behavior sustained on kinship relationships, about which there are ethnographic records.
