| English abstract | The research had the purpose of identifying the reading functions and the contributions of literary reading to people training on Alberto Manguel essays, especially, relating the experiences of reading with teacher’s personal and professional development, by extracting lessons to the practice of initial and continuing teachers training. With the systematization of reading works it is possible to state that literature is essential in the formation processes as it promotes self-knowledge, awareness of relationships with and in the world and also the possibility of questioning and transforming teacher’s practice |
| Portuguese abstract | A pesquisa teve como objetivo identificar, nos ensaios de Alberto Manguel, as funções da leitura e contribuições da leitura literária para a formação dos sujeitos e, em especial, relacionar as experiências de leitura ao desenvolvimento pessoal e profissional docente, extraindo lições para as práticas de formação inicial e continuada de professores. Com a sistematização das leituras das obras é possível afirmar que a literatura se faz indispensável nos processos formativos na medida em que promove, a partir da leitura criadora, autoconhecimento, consciência das relações com/no mundo e possibilidade de questionar e transformar a prática docente.
