| Spanish abstract | La relación entre El Libertador Simón Bolívar y el Presidente de la República de Haití, Alexandre Pétion, fue determinante para la Revolución Hispanoamericana. El presidente de Haití apoyó el proyecto bolivariano con dinero, armas, una imprenta portátil y soldados, y sólo pidió una cosa a cambio: el proyecto de ley de emancipación de esclavos en Venezuela una vez que Bolívar pusiera un pie en su país. Este artículo analiza por qué Bolívar llegó a Haití y cómo se encontraba política, intelectual y mentalmente preparado para asumir este controversial trato abolicionista con el gran presidente de Haití. Para lograr esto acudimos al debate historiográfico de un instante, así como a fuentes epistolares del Libertador, Miranda, Pétion, el Senador Marion, entre otros personajes clave de este momento |
| English abstract | The relationship between Simón Bolívar El Libertador and the President of the Republic of Haiti, Alexandre Pétion, was determinant for the Hispano American Revolution. The President of Haiti supported the Bolivarian project with money, arms, a portable press and soldiers, and only asked for one thing in return: the Slave Emancipation Bill in Venezuela once Bolivar set foot in his country. This article analyzes why Bolivar arrived in Haiti and how he was politically, intellectually and mentally prepared to assume this controversial abolitionist treatment with the great president of Haiti. To achieve this we turn to the historiographical debate of an instant, as well as to the epistolary sources of the Liberator, Miranda, Pétion, Senator Marion, among other key figures of this period |
