| English abstract | This work deals with the dictatorship imposed by Getúlio Vargas, Brazilian president since the revolution of 1930, who with the help of the military installed the Estado Novo (1937-1945). The period from 1930 to 1937 is quite troubled, having counted on workers’ strikes, the revolution of 1932, the uprising of 1935, as well as with numerous popular demonstrations and ideological debates. The New State, installed in 1937, restrained political liberalism, with the adoption of an authoritarian, nationalist and centralizing model that uses cultural propaganda for political purposes. In analyzing the period in question, considering World War II, we will study the action of the military and its interests in the outbreak of the coup along with Getúlio Vargas, as well as the new directions of the country during this dictatorship |
| Portuguese abstract | Este trabalho trata da ditadura imposta por Getúlio Vargas, presidente brasileiro desde a revolução de 1930, que com o auxílio dos militares instalou o Estado Novo (1937-1945). O período de 1930 a 1937 é bastante conturbado, havendo contado com greves operárias, a revolução de 1932, o levante de 1935, bem como com inúmeras manifestações populares e debates ideológicos. O Estado Novo, instalado em 1937, freia o liberalismo político, com a adoção de um modelo autoritário, nacionalista e centralizador, que utiliza a propaganda cultural com fins políticos. Ao analisar o período em questão, considerando a Segunda Guerra Mundial, se estudará a ação dos militares e seus interesses na deflagração do golpe junto com Getúlio Vargas, bem como os novos rumos do país durante esta ditadura |
