| English abstract | Following closely J. H. Lesher’ s historical remarks on Feuerbach’s painting Plato's Symposium , this article investigates the art and aesthetic discussion of his time and its relation to the two versions of his painting . T he interference of the elements attached to the Dionysian cult pre sented in the Platonic text will be analysed as well as the two versions of Feuerbach’s paintings , one which is rather “ Apollonian”, considered in its arrangement of gleaming colours and the other, more “Dionysian”, identified by its excessive tones and ov ertones . I’ll present an interpretation to the Platonic characters that Feuerbach presents in his canvas based on the Apollonian/Dionysian opposition as much as on the understanding on tragedy as a mediator of these different elements |
| Portuguese abstract | Seguindo considerações históricas e intuições de J. H. Lesher, o atual artigo estuda a pintura O Banquete de Platão de Anselm Feuerbach à luz da discussão estética em voga nas décadas em que o artista criou suas diferentes versões visuais. Para tanto, discute - se aqui, em um primeiro momento, as interferências dos elementos caros ao culto dionisíaco no texto platônico. A seguir, serão analisadas duas versões da obra de Feuerbach, uma considerada Apolínea em seu arranjo luzidio de cores e outra dionisíaca por seus excessivos tons e sobretons. Por fim, interpretarei as figuras platônicas que Feuerbach d ispõe em sua tela a partir não apenas dos opostos apolíneo/dionisíaco como também da compreensão da tragédia como mediadora desses diferentes elementos |
