| Spanish abstract | La ruptura cardíaca secundaria a traumatismo torácico cerrado o contuso suele ser un hallazgo en la necropsia, dado que muy pocos pueden llegar con vida al hospital. En cuanto a la localización de la ruptura, todas las series mencionan al ventrículo derecho como la cámara más frecuentemente lesionada en su pared libre y que la mayoría se acompaña de fracturas costales o esternales; presentamos el caso de un hombre de 29 años que tiene el antecedente de derrapamiento en motocicleta con trauma cerrado de tórax, con ruptura cardíaca auricular derecha diagnosticado durante la toracotomía anterolateral derecha de urgencia por hemotórax masivo, el cual presentó evolución favorable tras el evento quirúrgico. Siendo egresado del hospital y con un seguimiento al año, con clase funcional I de la New York Heart Association |
| English abstract | The heart rupture, as a result of thoracic blunt trauma is usually a necropsy finding, since very few patients arrive living to the hospital. Regarding the localization of the rupture, all series mention the right ventricle’s free wall as the most frequently injured chamber, as well as the most frequently associated with rib or sternal fractures. We present the case of a 29 year old man with history of motorcycle accident with blunt trauma of the chest and right atrium rupture diagnosed during anterolateral right emergency thoracotomy carried out because of massive hemothorax; the patient had a satisfactory evolution after the surgical event and was discharged from hospital and found with NYHA functional class I heart failure after a year of follow-up |
