| Spanish abstract | Este escrito trata de las imágenes religiosas de corte popular, las cuales remontan a un pasado reciente de la fe cristiana. Estos íconos religiosos remiten a una forma de devoción que va perdiendo vigencia, una que presume matices fetichistas y fanáticos. A las estampas e íconos se les reconocen milagros; es decir, el creyente o devoto sabe, con cierta antelación, que la imagen faculta ciertos favores, y pone a prueba su eficacia pidiéndole su amparo o socorro. El presente trabajo intenta explicar cómo las estampas religiosas siguen ocupando un lugar dentro del mercado mundial de las religiones y a la vez que se incorporan a lo que denomino el esoterismo de masas, precisamente por el carácter milagroso que se les atribuye dentro de la religiosidad popular |
| English abstract | This article examines popular religious images associated with the recent past of the Christian faith. These religious icons refer to a form of devotion whose relevance is vanishing, but still displays significant nuances of both fetishism and fanaticism. These stamps and icons are believed to possess the ability to work miracles; that is, the believer knows, beforehand, that the image will propitiate certain favors; thus she/he puts it to the test by imploring it for protection, support or help. The text seeks to explain how it is that these religious stamps continue to occupy a place in the global market of religions while simultaneously being incorporated into what we call mass esotericism, precisely due to the miraculous nature that popular religiosity attributes to them |
