| English abstract | This essay sets forth the worldview of Joachim of Fiore, an abbot who lived between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries and may now be regarded as one of the forerunners of the utopian impulse in the West, as he argued for the existence of three successive ages of spiritual development in humanity, with a clear sense of progress from one to the next.
