| English abstract | This article aims to analyze Tim Burton’s Ed Wood , with regard to the relationship be - tween the center and the outskirts of Hollywood and its aftermath: the relationship between art and trash, authorship and commercial film, margin and mainstream. We will argue that the good movie and the film canon can be seen as part of the same industrial structure, which gives rise to the movies well done but also to the poor. To undertake this analysis we will discuss the criteria for definition of a bad movie, the devaluation of the middlebrow as the result of the homology between the repertoire that brings the bad film and art, and the Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of distinction . We will also give a brief analysis of the film Edward D. Wood, Jr’s Glen or Glenda in order to try to clarify the logic behind his bad movies |
| Portuguese abstract | Este artigo pretende analisar o filme Ed Wood , de Tim Burton, no que se refere à relação entre o centro e a periferia de Hollywood e seus desdobramentos: a relação entre arte e lixo, autoria e filme comercial, margem e mainstream . Defenderemos que o fil - me bom e o filme canônico podem ser vistos como parte da mesma estrutura industrial, que dá origem ao cinema bem feito mas também à precariedade. Para empreender esta análise abordaremos os critérios de definição do filme ruim, a desvalorização do middlebrow decorrente da homologia entre o repertório que aproxima o filme ruim e a arte e o conceito de distinção de Pierre Bourdieu. Faremos também uma breve análise do filme Glen ou Glenda de Edward D. Wood, Jr., de modo a tentar esclarecer a lógica subjacente a seus filmes ruins. PALAVRAS-CHAVE Ed Wood, filme ruim, Hollywood |
