English abstract This article discusses the results of a qualitative study, performed in 2013. The "thematic analysis" was applied to understand the knowledge production about the health of the elderly woman. The consultation was conducted in three Qualis magazines A: Revista Estudos Feministas, Serviço Social and Sociedade and Revista Katálysis, being identified, respectively, 13, 15 and three texts about the elderly. However, just three articles responded to the inclusion criteria and comprehended the corpus. The results showed: the prevalence of research for older men; debate anchored by the presence of the broad concept of health; the recognition of the multifactorial aspect of old age; need for interdisciplinary work. The hypothesis that studies relating gender and old age are historically residuals is confirmed, reflecting the segregation of the discussion of the theme both in society and in academia
