Spanish abstract En este artículo nos interesa resal-tar la imagen del policía de a pie, tanto del que se corrompía como del que actuaba con apego a la ley. Los salones y cabarets fueron vistos como sitios decadentes por algunos periodistas de la época. Como consecuencia de ciertas actividades ilícitas y criminales llevadas a cabo ahí, esos espacios fueron ob-jeto de atención de la policía capitalina y del periodismo de nota roja. Aquí se describen las imágenes del sector policiaco involucra-do en la vigilancia de las actividades noctur-nas, como se ven en la prensa de nota roja del suplemento Magazine de Policía del periódico Excélsior
English abstract This article examines the image of the neighborhood policeman, both the cor-rupted cop and the one who acted accord-ing to the law. Cabarets and dance halls were identified as decadent sites by yellow journalism of the time. Due to the illicit and criminal activities conducted at these places, they were specially monitored by the police and by crime reporters. Images of the police sector involved in monitoring the night beat as seen in yellow journalism, particularly by the Magazine de Policía supplement of Mex-ican newspaper Excélsior,are described
