| Spanish abstract | En este ensayo se parte del supuesto de que el auge de la sociedad totalitaria tanto en su vertiente fascista como en su variante comunista nos obliga a volver a interrogar lo político, en este caso, la democracia. En la obra del filósofo francés Claude Lefort, la democracia tiene un significado político que es irreductible a cualquier forma de gobierno o a un mecanismo para la toma de decisiones. Desde su óptica, la democracia tiene un sentido instituyente que no se agota en lo instituido. Para recrear ese sentido instituyente, se abordarán la teoría lefortiana de la sociedad democrática, su idea del poder como un lugar simbólicamente vacío y su concepción de los derechos humanos como derechos políticos |
| English abstract | This essay starts from the premise that the golden age of totalitarianism, in its fascist phase as well as in its Communist version, obliges us to question the political, in this case democracy. In the work of the French philosopher Claude Lefort, democracy has a meaning that cannot be reduced to whatever form of government nor to a decision–making mechanism. From his point of view, democracy has as one of its purposes the creation of institutions, but this mission does not end once the institutions are created. To recreate this "instituting" spirit, we will look at Lefort's theory of the democratic society, his idea of power as symbolically empty space, and his conception of human rights as political rights |
