| Spanish abstract | Las enfermedades infecciosas han sido parte de la vida del ser humano. Durante la historia ha existido una batalla continua por el control y erradicación de agentes microbiológicos; por otro lado, la supervivencia de la mayoría de las bacterias y virus depende de su capacidad de infectar al Homo sapiens. Al contrario de lo que uno podría pensar, las infecciones han ganado muchas batallas y ocasionado la muerte de millones de individuos, lo que ha cambiado muchas veces la historia del ser humano. A continuación, se presentan cinco infecciones que han marcado al hombre; paradójicamente, la única de ellas que ha sido erradicada constituye en la actualidad una amenaza como arma biológica |
| English abstract | Infectious diseases have always been part of human life. Throughout history, there has been a continuous battle between microorganisms and humans; the first need to infect humans in order to persist in nature, and the Homo sapiens seeks the control and eradication of diseases that affect him. On many occasions, infectious diseases have killed millions of human beings; in other cases, they have changed history. In the following article, we present five different diseases that have changed human populations, the way of life and even social relations. It is sad to acknowledge that the only infectious agent that humans have been able to eradicate from the world constitutes now the threat of a biological weapon |
