| English abstract | The understanding of the structure of a scientific revolution presupposes an analysis of the conceptual change supervening to the process of theory change. There are several cases of language alteration discussed by Kuhn in his work about revolutions in science. This article discusses some of these cases when related to the history of chemistry and suggests a meaningful rapprochement between Kuhn and Duhem’s conceptions with respect to the historian’s craft when studying obsolete theories. It suggests yet that the attention to conceptual change in the evaluation of the past is a crucial mark to determine the new historiography of science, as recognized by Kuhn |
| Portuguese abstract | A compreensão da estrutura de uma revolução científica pressupõe uma análise da mudança conceitual superveniente ao processo de mudança de teorias. Muitos são os casos de alteração de linguagem discutidos por Kuhn em sua obra sobre revoluções científicas. Neste trabalho, discutimos alguns desses casos quando ocorrentes na história da química e sugerimos uma aproximação significativa entre as concepções de Kuhn e Duhem no que se refere ao ofício do historiador quando estuda teorias obsoletas. Sugerimos ainda que a atenção à mudança conceitual na avaliação do passado é uma marca essencial para determinar a nova historiografia da ciência, tal como reconhecida por Kuhn |
