| Spanish abstract | La muerte del guardián fray Miguel de Mesa, en enero de 1762, marcó el inicio de la secularización del curato y doctrina franciscana de Tzintzuntzan, provincia de San Pedro y San Pablo de Michoacán. A partir de entonces, los frailes de la provincia, el cabildo y los indios del lugar rogaron al obispo y al virrey que no removieran a los franciscanos de aquel convento. Sin embargo, las súplicas y protestas no pudieron evitar que a finales de 1766 se secularizara uno de los conventos más importantes de Michoacán |
| English abstract | The death of the guardian Fray Miguel de Mesa, in January 1762, marked the beginning of the secularization of the parish and Franciscan doctrine of Tzintzuntzan, province of San Pedro and San Pablo of Michoacán. Since then, the friars of the province, the council and the local Indians begged the bishop and viceroy not to expel the Franciscans from the convent. In spite of their pleas and protests, they could not prevent that the most important monasteries of Michoacán underwent secularization by the end of 1766 |
