| Spanish abstract | Este trabajo pretende reconstruir y explicar las instituciones municipales en un valle montañés, el valle de Soba (Cantabria), situado al norte de la península ibérica. Nos interesa saber quiénes ejercieron los cargos municipales y cómo se sirvieron las familias más importantes del valle de diferentes estrategias para consolidar su poder local. Abordaremos a través del estudio de una de las familias más importantes de Soba, los conflictos que generaron el ejercicio y abuso de estos cargos. En definitiva, analizaremos la cultura política de un valle rural del norte de España durante el siglo XVIII, de donde salieron un grupo importante de migrantes que se incorporaron a las colonias americanas |
| English abstract | The present article seeks to reconstruct and explain municipal institutions in a mountain valley, namely the Soba Valley (Cantabria), located north of the Iberian Peninsula. We are interested in finding out who held the municipal posts and which were the strategies used by the most important families of the valley in order to consolidate their local power. The study focuses on one of the most influential families in Soba and the conflicts generated by the occupation and abuse of these posts. Last, we will analyze the political culture of a rural valley in the North of Spain in the 18th century from where an important group of migrants left the country in order to go to the American colonies |
