| English abstract | For an effectively responsive translation of the episode known as “Oxen of the Sun”, in James Joyce’s Ulysses , it is necessary to rethink the impact of each historical moment for the formation of both the source and the target literature. If Joyce could compose his text as a patchwork made entirely of travesties that mirrors the history of English literature, how could one recreate his experiment in Portuguese? Seen this way, the period between the 16 th and 17 th centuries is a particularly (un-)happy example of how history can differ from one tradition to another |
