Spanish abstract O trabalho se propõe analisar o material de dois sí tios arqueológicos do período colonial localizados na planície costeira n orte do Rio Grande do Sul. Para ampliar o contexto histórico das amostras busc ou-se relacionar os elementos de cultura material, recolhidos nos sítio s RS-LN-141 e RS-LN-142, com informações históricas da área, recolhidas atra vés de revisão bibliográfica. Os materiais presentes na coleção correspondem a um período inicial de povoamento da região por populações lusas ou mestiças, aproximando-se da época em que inicia o estabelecimento das primeiras propriedades agropastoris, afastando-se da época dos primeiros c ontatos com as populações nativas através da captura de índios e d a missão
English abstract The aim of this paper is to analyze the material re mains of two colonial archaeological sites, located on the coastal plain of the federal state of Rio Grande do Sul. In order to amplify the historical c ontext of the samples we compared the material elements recovered on the sit es RS-LN-141 and RS-LN- 142 with historical information of the area obtaine d through bibliographic review. The objects of the collection correspond to an init ial period of the peopling in the area by Portuguese and mestizo individuals, near to the establishment of the first agropastoral properties and distant from the first interaction of slave raiders and missionaries with the native population
