| Spanish abstract | Este trabajo se propone contribuir al debate sobre las propuestas de política industrial tendientes a mitigar las asimetrías existentes en Argentina en dos aspectos claves: la distribución de la población urbana y la localización de la industria manufacturera. Con una perspectiva histórica y énfasis en el período 1970–2003, se estudia la distribución interregional e interprovincial de la población urb ana y de la actividad industrial, así como la relación entre éstas. Sobre la base de la literatur a al respecto y datos censales, se sostiene que la estructura territorial argentina presenta una notable rigidez, al punto que el patrón de distribución de la población urbana gestado antes de la Primera Guerra Mundial se mantuvo con pocas modificaciones hasta el comienzo del presente siglo y se replicó en la distribución de la actividad industrial |
| English abstract | This work aims to contribute to the debate on proposed measures to mitigate the asymmetries in Argentina on two key aspects of the industrial policy: the distribution of the urban population and the location of the manufacturing industry. With a historical perspec- tive and emphasis on the period 1970–2003, the interregional and inter-urban distribution of population and industrial activity, and the relationship between them is studied. Based on the literature and census data, it is argued that Argentina territorial structure presents a remarkable rigidity, to the extent that the distrib ution pattern of the urban population gestated before the First World War remained little changed until the beginning of this century and was replicated in the distribution of industrial activity |
