| English abstract | This study explores Paul Ricoeur’s approach to the theme of culture by reviewing texts from different chronological periods of his intellectual journey and bringing to light the theoretical background from which the author considers the issue of culture. The main thesis we hold is that, despite the chronological variable and the widening of Ricoeur’s conceptual system in a more mature intellectual phase, there is a preserved background conviction, a rhythmic unit in his approach to the issue of culture. Such belief can be described as the need for a critical and creative rescue of the evaluative core that motivates togetherness. This thesis unfolds into an openness to a process of reinterpretation and welcoming of new readings of memory (through translation, the economy of memory, and forgiveness) that joins critique and conviction (in which history plays a decisive role), a bet on the constancy of “migrations”, the presence of the other in us (chez nous) and the utopia of heterogeneous forms of integration. This results into a fragile, conflict-ridden, but intercultural and communicative identity |
| Portuguese abstract | O estudo propõe-se explorar a abordagem de Paul Ricoeur ao tema da cultura fazendo uma recapitulação de textos de períodos cronológicos diferentes de seu percurso intelectual e trazendo à luz o panorama teórico a partir do qual o autor procurou pensar o tema da cultura. A tese principal que sustentamos é que em Ricoeur, apesar da variável cronológica e da ampliação de sua rede conceitual numa fase intelectual mais madura, preserva- se uma mesma convicção de fundo, uma unidade de ritmo em sua abordagem ao tema da cultura. Tal convicção pode ser descrita nos seguintes termos: a necessidade do resgate crítico e criativo do núcleo valorativo que motiva o viver junto. Tal tese apresenta o seguinte desdobramento: a abertura a um processo de reinterpretação e acolhida a novas leituras da memória (por meio da tradução, da economia da memória e do perdão) que congrega crítica e convicção – em que a história exerce um papel decisivo –, uma aposta na constância das “migrações”, a presença do outro em nós (chez nous) e a utopia de modalidades heterogêneas de integração.
