| English abstract | This article reflects on the use of cinema as a teaching resource for the teaching of history, taking as a object the representations of the movie Kingdom of Heaven, directed by Ridley Scott in 2005. By establishing a dialogue between the images of the Crusades in the film directed by Scott and visions about this event in some textbooks published between the late 1990’s and 2008, it aims to demonstrate that the film, while reinforcing stereotypes and prejudices about the Middle Ages, can be as well used to question these stigmas and to construct historical knowledge |
| Portuguese abstract | Este artigo objetiva refletir sobre a utilização do cinema como recurso didático para o ensino de História a partir da análise das representações da Idade Média no filme Cruzada (Kingdom of Heaven), dirigido por Ridley Scott, em 2005. Ao estabelecer um diálogo entre as imagens das Cruzadas na película dirigida por Scott e as visões sobre esse evento em alguns manuais escolares editados entre o final dos anos de 1990 e 2008, busca-se demonstrar que o filme, ao mesmo tempo em que reforça estereótipos e preconceitos sobre o medievo, pode ser meio privilegiado de problematização desses estigmas e de construção do conhecimento histórico |
