| Spanish abstract | Ante la dificultad de afirmar si la tutoría es una actividad cotidiana de los profesores o una meta institucional por conquistar, aquí se discute y se propone una definición útil para las universidades que permita aclarar sus objetivos, acotar sus funciones y esbozar un perfil ideal del profesor que puede ejercer esta labor. Para ello se descartan algunos planteamientos demasiado amplios y ambiciosos que oscurecen la labor del tutor y se recuperan las características que la describen con mayor precisión. Por último se distinguen las maneras formales e informales de hacer tutoría con el fin de reconocer ambas modalidades y orientar a las instituciones de educación superior que apuntan hacia una sistematización y una evaluación de dichas acciones |
| English abstract | Towards the difficulty to affirm whether tutoring is a daily activity for teachers or an institutional goal to conquer, a useful definition for universities will be discussed and proposed in order to clear its objectives, limit its functions, and sketch an ideal profile for the professor who can perform such a task. As means to achieve it, some excessively wide and ambitious approaches will be discarded and tutoring most precise characteristics will be rescued. Finally, a distinction will be made between formal and informal tutoring to recognize both types and guide educational institutions aiming to systematize and evaluate these activities |
