| Spanish abstract | La alopecia areata es una enfermedad crónica que afecta el folículo piloso y algunas veces las uñas. Es de origen multifactorial y puede aparecer a cualquier edad, no tiene distinción de sexo o raza. Se distingue por áreas alopécicas que la mayor parte de las veces son reversibles. Sin embargo, existen formas muy crónicas y resistentes a los tratamientos, que pueden convertirse en un verdadero reto terapéutico para el dermatólogo. Causa gran repercusión psicosocial y puede ser el reflejo de otros trastornos de origen autoinmunitario. No existe un tratamiento específico; sin embargo, algunos medicamentos suelen ser alentadores y dan una respuesta favorable en menor tiempo |
| English abstract | Alopecia areata is a chronic disease that affects the hair follicles and sometimes the nails. It is multifactorial in origin and may occur at any age, sex or race. The clinical picture is characterized by patches that are most often reversible. However, chronic and treatment-resistant forms are a therapeutic challenge for the dermatologist. It can also cause a great psychosocial impact and may reflect other autoimmune disorders. There is no specific treatment; however, some medications are often encouraging and give favorable results in a short time |
