| Spanish abstract | Castro Alves is, undoubtly, one of the biggest poets in the Portuguese Language. Just this would be enough in order to celebrate this year, the year of his 160th birthday. But the poet , isn’t important just because of his poems. Castro Alves played a decisive rol to eliminate the slavery in Brazil. There in, it is suggested the novel “ O amor do Soldado”. In it, the reader will be able to find out an involving narrative about the live, lovers and the unrestable fight for freedom, protagonized by the seductive figure of this man, called “the slaves’ poet”, told by as just another imortal “baiano” would know how to report – Jorge Amado. Searching, in a certain way, for a redeem of the correct statements of Mário Maestri, historian, that mentions the unexplainable absence of the reading public and critics by the time we counted 150 years of the poet’s birth, we believe that is extremely important to dot the 160 yers old of Castro Alves |
| English abstract | Castro Alves é inquestionavelmente um dos maiores poetas da língua portuguesa. Só esse motivo já bastaria para que se fizesse relevante marcar o ano de seu sesquicentenário. Mas o poeta não se fez importante apenas pela excelência de seus versos. Castro Alves exerceu um papel decisivo para a abolição da escravatura no Brasil. Nesse sentido, sugere-se a leitura da obra “O Amor do Soldado”. Nela o leitor poderá encontrar o envolvente relato da vida, dos amores a da incansável luta pela liberdade, protagonizada pelo sedutora figura daquele que ficou conhecido como o Poeta dos Escravos; contada como só um outro baiano também imortal e saudoso saberia contar – Jorge Amado. Buscando, de certa forma, redimirmo-nos das acertadas asseverações do historiador Mário Maestri, quando cita a irreparável ausência da crítica e do público leitor, por ocasião dos 150 anos de nascimento do poeta, acreditamos ser imprescindível pontuarmos, com reverência, os 160 anos de Castro Alves |
