English abstract Parental bringing-up practices can give rise to behavior problems in children. The aim of this study was to compare Parental Social Educational Skills (PSES) between two groups of parents: parents of preschoolers with behavior problems and parents of preschoolers with socially adequate behaviors. Mothers and fathers were also compared as to their PSES. Forty-eight couples participated. Twenty-four had a child with behavior problems at school (BP Group), and 24 had a child with good behavior (GB Group). Fathers and mothers answered an interview route assessing PSES. Parents of GB children tended to evaluate their own PSES more positively than parents of BP children: physical affection, agreement with the other parent, dependability. The mothers evaluated themselves as more skilled than the fathers did. The PSES which best discriminated the two groups were those related to consistency and positive affection
Portuguese abstract Práticas educativas parentais podem contribuir para a instalação de problemas de comportamento em crianças. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar Habilidades Sociais Educativas Parentais (HSE-P) entre pais de pré-escolares com problemas de comportamento e pais de pré-escolares com comportamentos socialmente habilidosos. Adicionalmente, compararam-se as HSP-E de pais e mães. Participaram 48 casais, dos quais 24 tinham um(a) filho(a) com comportamentos socialmente habilidosos segundo o professor (Grupo CSA) e 24, um filho com problemas de comportamento (Grupo PC). Pais e mães responderam a um roteiro de entrevista que avalia HSE-P. Verificou-se no Grupo CSA uma tendência a avaliar mais positivamente suas HSP-E: demonstrar carinho, concordar com cônjuge, cumprir promessas. As mães se consideraram mais habilidosas que os pais. As HSP-E que mais diferenciaram os grupos foram aquelas relacionadas a consistência e afeto positivo
