| Spanish abstract | Este artículo sirve como introducción para el número especial que Academia, Revista Latinoamericana de Administración ha dedicado al proyecto Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM). Los países de América Latina y el Caribe constituyen la segunda región con mayor representación después de Europa en el GEM. Los trabajos aquí presentados son el resultado de investigaciones que ponen énfasis en el contexto latinoamericano a través del uso del marco conceptual y los datos del GEM. Esta introducción describe el proyecto GEM, resume algunos de los principales indicadores para la región y hace un análisis de las contribuciones de los artículos destacando la importancia del estudio sistemático del emprendimiento en América Latina |
| English abstract | This article provides an introduction to the special issue of Academia, Revista Latinoamericana de Administración dedicated to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), project. As a region, the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean correspond to the second highest representation in GEM after Europe. The papers presented here are the result of studies that emphasize the Latin American context through the use of the GEM’s conceptual framework and data. This introduction describes the GEM project, summarizes some key indicators for the region and analyses the contributions of these articles stressing the importance of systematic study of entrepreneurship in Latin America |
